How to Know the Will of God (Part 2)
(Colossians 1:9-10; 1 Samuel 30;1-8)
(Colossians 1:9-10; 1 Samuel 30;1-8)
The greatest and safest place for you and for me, is in the will of God. The greatest piece of information that you can have, is the knowledge of the will of God.
In Col 1:9, Paul’s prayer is that the believers be filled (cram-loaded) with the knowledge of His will.
One way we can know the will of God is through the leading of the Holy Spirit (e.g. Acts 13, Acts 16, Acts 19 – specific details and promptings of the Holy Spirit). We can know the Leading of the Holy Spirit through Prayer.
In 1 Sam 30, King David encountered a crisis, where he took the opportunity to pray. We can hear God when we are in a crisis.
Two important truths about crises are, some crises come because of the enemy’s retaliation (1 Sam 27:8), and at times we face crises because of other folks’ rebellion (Saul didn’t destroy the Amalekites). It is important to conquer what we are told to conquer.
In the middle of crisis, pray. When you pray:
Be Honest Emotionally (vs 4)
Be totally honest about how you feel
.
Be Strengthened Spiritually (be healed) vs 6.
David strengthened himself in the Lord. There is an exchange that occurs in the presence of the Lord, where our weakness is exchanged for His strength.
.
Be Open Mentally (vs 7-8)
After we inquire of God, wait until He gives the answer
Many times, we ask the questions, but we don’t pause and listen for the answers, because we are not open mentally about how God wants to do it. In knowing the will of God, we will also know the wisdom of God. God will reveal His timing, His resources, and the personnel.
Closing thoughts: In every crisis, God will work something in and through you. God’s will is guaranteed and He has a recovery system in place.
We can know the will of God.
