Still Trying to Take Christ Out of Christmas

The wise men followed the star because it was extraordinary. They knew the star signified an extraordinary (special) person.

Herod was troubled because he was not a legitimate king of Israel. He was afraid of the legitimate King. The Jews also knew that Herod was not legitimate, and they too were afraid.

In Bethlehem (vs 3): Herod’s response was to gather information on the King who was to be born. His intention was to take him out.

In Egypt (vs 13): When they tried to take the child out in Egypt, God intervened. Herod continued with the spirit to kill and destroy, going to desperate means to take out the Christ.

In Nazareth (vs 19-22): The spirit that operated in Herod was in his son. The spirit of Herod was trying to take him out.

They tried to take Him out at Calvary (Matthew 28). The spirit of Herod was still in operation. Interestingly, the same charge that was leveled against him at Calvary was leveled against him as a baby – “are you the King of the Jews?”

They tried to take Christ out in Bethlehem, Egypt, Nazareth and at Calvary, but He is still with us. Amen.
