Faith For Your Future: Discerning the Will of God
(Luke 1:5-7)
(Luke 1:5-7)
“Faith begins where the Will of God is known.” – Kenneth Hagin
Let’s define “will”. The word “will” means determination, choice, purpose, and/or desire. So when we say we want God’s will, we are literally saying that we want God’s determination, God’s choice, God’s purpose, and God’s desire!
“Sometimes it’s hard to discern the Will of God on the smaller matters, because we’ve ignored His will on the weightier matters.” – Dr. D’Ann Johnson
Let’s look throughout the scripture to see what God’s will is.
John 6:40 – For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
We see that the first text in the New Testament concerning the Will of God that everyone accept His salvation. So this impacts how we deal with other people. When I know that it is God’s will that everyone accept His salvation, I will be more inclined to share the Gospel.
1 Thessalonians 4:3a – For this is the will of God, your sanctification
Sanctification is the process of becoming progressively more and more like Christ.
God wants us to be more and more like Him. When we accept Christ, we are not a slave to sin; we don’t “have to”. And so we must make decisions that walk out Christ-likeness in our lives.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 – give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Notice that the scripture does not say, “give thanks for” but rather “give thanks in” meaning no matter what we are going through, we can still give thanks.
“Every time we complain, we can say that’s not the will of God.” – Dr. D’Ann Johnson
1 Peter 2:15 – For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people
Our lives should be lived in such a way that even when we are accused of doing wrong, our lives would silence the accusation.
