Kingdom Identity
(Matthew 5:13-16)
(Matthew 5:13-16)
As humans, we are deeply driven by our sense of identity. We buy things we do not want to impress people we do not like. We teach our children about what to wear. We want them to have the Polo and Tommy. Jesus understood this and so does the world.
Salt at that time was very valuable. Roman soldiers were paid in salt. Hence the phrase, “he is worth his weight in salt”. Salt was also used in a variety of ways:
In the same way that salt was (and still is) extremely valuable, likewise, we are valuable.
God wants to use you so that people can see Him. God does not want you to dim your light, rather shine brightly. This light is used to give people direction. The truth of the matter is that the world needs to see the light. You need to be so visible that they see the light of Jesus shining in you.
A witness is used to attest to the truth or validity of something or someone. As Christians, we are attesting to the world the gospel of Jesus Christ.
