Sermon Notes
“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.”
What Happens When We Pray?
“When we are able to pray according to His will, He hears us.” – Pastor Billy R. Johnson
Where there has been sadness, we thank God for wholeness. He literally will perfect that which concerns us, and there is no detail in our lives that He overlooks. When we pray, healing and wholeness come forth, but we must remember to pray according to His will.
We must pray the will of God even when it contradicts our own will
The scripture 1 Chronicles 17 indicates an example of praying the will of God even though it contradicts one’s own will. We see in the scripture that David, having a heart for God, desired to build a place of worship. However, it was God’s will that the place be built not by David, but rather by his son Solomon, and so it was God’s will.
We must pray the will of God when under enemy attack
When under attack, we may be tempted to pray what we feel or think. In the scripture II Kings 19 even under attack, Hezekiah’s prayer was not only to be saved but that all the kingdoms of the earth would know the Lord.
We must pray the will of God when pressured to violate your convictions
In Acts 4 we see how the name of Jesus was forbidden. Today it is still evident as we live in a culture where we can talk about Buddha or Allah, but we are warned and must be careful when saying anything about Jesus.
We must pray the will of God even when the assignment is bigger than we are
We see in scripture the plight of King Solomon. As he prayed being ruler over the people, he could have asked for riches and power. Instead he prayed for an understanding heart to understand the people he ruled.
In closing, as we step into this new place that God has destined for us, we may feel our assignment is bigger than we are. But as we use this lesson of prayer, to pray according to His will, we should move with laser focus to the destiny that God has planned for us.
