Delight in the Lord
(Psalms 37:1-2, 4)
(Psalms 37:1-2, 4)
Psalms 37:1-2, 4 (NKJV) – Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
So David picks up in verse 4 telling us that we must delight ourselves in the Lord.
“God wants us to keep our eyes on Him.” – Minister Michelle Jackson.
Command – We are being commanded to delight ourselves in the Lord.
Conditional – And if we delight ourselves in the Lord, God gave a promise that He will give us the desires of our heart.
How Do We Delight?
Delight means soft, delicate, dainty, pliable, to live or spin enjoyment.
As we get in God’s presence He begins to transform and make us pliable. We begin to embrace what God has for us.
Nehemiah 1:11 (NIV) – Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name.
“We can’t honor Him if we don’t know Him.” – Minister Michelle Jackson
Psalms 40:8 – I desire to do your will, my God; Your law is within my heart.
“When you focus on God’s will—you lose nothing.” – Minister Michelle
God’s will is that everyone gets saved.
John 6:40 – And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
Psalms 37:1-2, 4 Psalms 1:2 – but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.
Psalms 119:16:47,70 – I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.
If we are going to delight in who He is, we must wrap ourselves in the Word of God.” – Minister Michelle Jackson
Psalms 42:1-2 – As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
Psalms 63:1-3 – You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.
Does your heart thirst for God?
The Hebrews felt the heart is the center of who we are: our mind, will, and emotions.
Do our desires line-up with His word?
“We lack peace because the desires in our heart don’t line-up with God.” – Minister Michelle Jackson
“If your heart is not right, it’s going to come out in your asking.”- Minister Michelle Jackson
This is why we must first delight ourselves in the Lord, so that He can transform us (including our desires) into His image. And so He becomes the desire of our heart.
