The Power of Persistence in Prayer

(Luke 11:5-10)

Jesus begins to tell the parable of “A Friend Comes at Midnight”. The friend did not get the answer based upon need nor was the answer granted based on resources but granted because of his persistence. The biblical definition of Persistence is “A Shameless Boldness”. Miriam Webster Thesaurus states persistence is “continuing in a course of action without regard to discouragement, disappointments, opposition or previous failures”.

How to be persistent in prayer:

The way to persist in prayer is to Ask (ask and keep on asking), Seek (seek and keep on seeking) and Knock (knock and keep on knocking). With Ask, Seek, and Knock, there is a promise.

Ask – Announcing the Petition.

The word ask means to beg for—there’s a level of urgency with the word. James says “You have not because you ask not”. Asking is your declaration. You are announcing the petition.

Philippians. 4:6 – “Let your request be known to God” (NKJV)
Philippians. 4:6 – “Tell God what you need” (NLT)
John 15:7 – “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you” (NKJV).

Seek – Acknowledging the Provider.

It has the inference of worship. You are trying to learn the location of something. You want to know God’s viewpoint on something. Seeking brings clarity on what God wants you to do. Seek God and find out how He wants you to approach it. Seek and you shall find. You’ll be amazed at how God will open your eyes—seeking brings clarification. God has all of the answers.

Knock – Accessing the Provision.

Knocking brings manifestation where you access the provision. Knocking sends a signal of your presence on the outside because those on the inside have the ability to let you in. Knock and the door will be opened—it’s yours. The door is going to be opened to you. An open door doesn’t mean there won’t be any opposition. Just because there is opposition doesn’t mean we should not walk through the door. The door is opened but there is opposition—And! Go ahead and get the promise God has for you. Say—“It’s mine”!

1 Corinthians 16:9 “For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries” (NKJV). “There is a wide-open door for a great work here, although many oppose me” (NLT).” Read Colossians. 4:3
