Advent Week 1: Hope That Overflows
(Romans 15:13 (NIV))
(Romans 15:13 (NIV))
In the coming weeks we are celebrating the four great gifts Jesus brings:
“We are still living in a world that is in desperate need of hope.” – Pastor Billy Johnson
Romans 15:13 (NIV)
13May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Hope does not originate in personality.
Hope does not originate in positive thinking.
Hope does not come in political movements.
Hope does not come in social progress.
All these things can change so our hope must be in God who does not change.
“God is sovereign; Nothing threatens His plans.” – Pastor Billy Johnson
Romans 15:13 (NIV)
13May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
We must trust God and not ourselves. Don’t look at your circumstances.
“Faith is the bridge that carries God’s promises from scripture to our souls.” – Pastor Billy Johnson
Romans 15:13 (NIV)
13May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
The goal is not for you to have just a little hope. The Spirit wants you to overflow with hope.
When you are filled with hope, then hope can overflow.
“When my hope goes down a little bit, I have to go back to my source.” – Pastor Billy Johnson
.
Conclusion
So, we declare:
Hope has a SOURCE — GOD
Hope has a PATHWAY — TRUST
Hope has a PURPOSE — OVERFLOW
This Advent, may the Holy Spirit lead us from empty fear to overflowing hope in Jesus Christ.
Closing Prayer
God of hope, fill us today with fresh expectation.
Where fear has occupied our hearts — restore peace.
Where sorrow has dimmed our joy — renew gladness.
Where disappointment has drained our faith — rebuild trust.
Holy Spirit, cause hope to overflow from us into a world longing for You.
We wait with confidence because the Root of Jesse has come — and He will reign forever.
Amen.
