Serving for God’s Glory

1. Serving for God’s Glory Flows from Identity John 13:1–3 

“Motives matter. You can do the right thing for the wrong reasons.” – Senior Pastor Billy R. Johnson.  Some are looking for applause, approval or advancement, but true service is for God’s Glory. The scripture shows on the night before the crucifixion, Jesus took a towel to wash the feet of His disciples, as an example to glorify God in the midst of serving. Serving may not be convenient but serving for God’s glory flows from identity. Do you know who you are in God?  Begin to understand who God says you are and allow that to shape your thinking as it relates to your identity. “You can serve freely because your worth is settled.” – Senior Pastor, Billy R. 2. Serving for God’s Glory Means Lowering Yourself John 13:4–11

Jesus took the place of the lowest servant in the house.  He was willing to lower Himself in order to serve, as He washed the feet of His disciples.  God gives these us opportunities to lower ourselves in service to show our hearts. Everyone will not understand the lowering of your service. “Greatness is not found in your title, but it is found in your sacrifice.” – Senior Pastor, Billy R. Johnson.

3. Serving for God’s Glory Points Others to God, Not Us John 13:12–17

“Serving points others to God and not to you.” – Senior Pastor, Billy R. Johnson.  True service directs other to God. We should begin to look at people and see what God says about them and serve them the way God wishes them to be served.

In closing, ask yourself If nobody saw you, would you still serve?

• Check your motives. Are you serving to be noticed, or to glorify God?
• Serve from identity. Know who you are in Christ — that frees you to serve without insecurity.
• Be willing to stoop. No task is too small if it glorifies God.
• Point upward. Let every act of service direct attention to Him, not you.
