Align Your Attitude: Living to Glorify God
(Colossians 3:14-17)
(Colossians 3:14-17)
Your attitude is the mental and emotional filter through which you interpret life. It affects how we respond to challenges, how we interact with others, and even how we see God. A bad attitude spreads like a virus, spreading negativity and disrupting productivity. A good attitude fosters teamwork and success. The same principle applies to our spiritual walk.
“Attitude is the librarian of our past, the speaker of our present, and the prophet of our future. It can be our best friend or worst enemy.” – John Maxwell
In Colossians 3:17, Paul says, “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Here “whatever” includes everything – what we say, how we communicate, and our deeds – do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.
“I need to live to glorify God. I live to glorify God.” – Pastor Billy Johnson
Ask yourself these questions: “Is what I’m doing glorifying God?” “Will this action or these words bring glory to God?” “Can I do this without compromising my Christian witness?” Be mindful to be His representative in all we do. We will do all in accordance to His authority, in His character, and according to His reputation. We cannot separate the secular and the sacred. Are we handling our spouse, children, home, job, etc. in a way that glorifies God? We need to get to the place where whatever we do in our lives glorifies God.
.
If we are going to glorify God, we must have an attitude of love. Wear it like a garment wherever we go and when dealing with every person, even though they don’t deserve it. An attitude of love is that bond of perfection that brings everyone together.
Don’t be filled with conflict. Peace is a promise given to us by the Lord Jesus Christ (My peace I give unto you). Let this peace that He has given us rule in our hearts. If we don’t have love for people, it’s hard to walk in peace.
“It should be foreign for a Christian to be without peace.” – Pastor Billy Johnson
We must assume a position of constantly showing gratitude and appreciation for what God has done. An attitude of love allows us to deal with people from an external perspective, an attitude of peace allows us to deal with our internal issues, and an attitude of thankfulness is both internal and external because it starts from a heart of genuine appreciation of God that is expressed outward.
Challenge: When you wake up, thank God for three things. Gratitude shifts our mindset and strengthens our faith.
Having an attitude of love, peace, and thankfulness comes from having an abundance of the Word in our hearts. It’s hard to have the other attitudes (love, peace, and thankfulness) without the Word of God. It is important to saturate ourselves with scripture. Having the Word on the inside of us creates a level of wisdom that changes the way we view life.
Paul is saying that we need to put all of this on to glorify God with an attitude of love, peace, thankfulness, and letting the Word dwell in us. Ultimately, it will produce a life that glorifies God.
