Time Alone With God (Part 3)
The Transformative Power of Solitude
(Genesis 32)
(Genesis 32)
In the scripture we find Jacob at a turning point in his life. He has struggled much of his life trying to secure his own blessings. He is wrestling with his past, his fears and his identity.
“Sometimes to hear God’s voice clearly, and experience true transformation, we need time alone with God.” – Pastor Billy R. Johnson.

THE ADVANTAGES OF BEING ALONE WITH GOD
Time Alone with God Reveals Who You Are (Genesis 32: 22)
Without distraction, we are forced to wrestle with who we are.
“When we’re alone with God, the noise of the world fades away.” – Pastor Billy R. Johnson.
.
Time Alone with God Changes Your Identity (Genesis 32: 25-26)
After Jacob wrestled with God, God gave him a new name. God changed his identity. Jacob had been known for his “walk” or by the way he did things. When you encountered Jacob, you knew to expect something crooked. There is significance in Genesis 32: 26 – the last time Jacob stole the blessing from his brother, now he was asking God for the blessing.
Time Alone with God Equips You for What’s Ahead (Genesis 32:29-31)
After wrestling with God, Jacob was ready to face his brother. He sent gifts ahead so that his brother would find favor. When Jacob asked for the blessing from God, God blessed him right there. The blessing equipped Jacob with the courage to face his future. The blessing gave him a new perspective. Jacob no longer relied on his own strength, but now looked through the lens of God. Jacob’s physical limp served as a reminder that he needed God’s grace, and he depended on God. Being equipped now meant Jacob was the carrier of a promise that was given in the past.
It is in solitude that we gain insight into the voice and ways of God. Make time in your life to be alone with God.
