All relationships take work!

The word WORK is used intentionally.

Over the next few weeks, we will roll up our sleeves and do the work in these four areas:

• THE WORK OF RESPECT
• THE WORK OF TRUST
• THE WORK OF COMMUNICATION
• THE WORK OF FORGIVENESS

 

 

WHAT IS RESPECT?

• Webster’s Definition – Due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of others

“We don’t need to share the same opinions as others, but we need to be respectful.” – Taylor Swift

• Biblical Definition

1 Peter 2:17 (NKJV) – ⁷Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

• Honor All

Honor – to show esteem or honor toward, to respect

All – each and every one

• Love the Brotherhood

Love – to have great affection or care for or loyalty towards

Brotherhood – fellowship of believers

• Fear God

Fear – to reverence, be in awe of

• Honor the King

Honor – to show esteem or honor toward, to respect

King – a make sovereign ruler

1 Peter 2:17 (NLT) – Respect everyone, and love the family of believers. Fear God, and respect the king.

1 Peter 2:17 (The Message) – Treat everyone you meet with dignity. Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the government.

WHY IS RESPECT IMPORTANT?

• You consciously WITNESS for God
• You confirm the WORTH of the Person

HOW TO RECEIVE RESPECT?

• Be respectable

1 Thessalonians 4:11–12 (NKJV) – ¹that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, ¹²that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing.

1 Thessalonians 4:11–12 (NLT) – Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. Then people who are not believers will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others.

• Sow Respect

Luke 6:31 (NKJV) – And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.

 

Luke 6:31 (NLT) – Do to others as you would like them to do to you.

 

HOW TO GIVE RESPECT?

• Through your AWARENESS (of the person, their position, or power)
• Through your ATTITUDE (of honor)
• Through your ACTIONS
