Empowered for His Purpose
(2 Timothy 1:6-7a)
(2 Timothy 1:6-7a)
2 Timothy 1:7a – “For God has not given us a spirit of fear…”
When Paul says “God has not given us a spirit of fear,” he’s talking about the Holy Spirit—the foundational gift.
In Acts 2:38, Peter promises “you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
That’s the BIG gift—the Holy Spirit Himself.
The same Spirit who empowered Jesus—who birthed the early church at Pentecost—is the SAME Spirit in you. Not a different version. Not a weaker version. THE SAME SPIRIT.
.
2 Timothy 1:6 – “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you…”
Paul’s point: The gift already EXISTS (like embers). It’s not dead—but it may have grown cold, dim, or dormant. YOU need to fan it back into full flame.
This is Timothy’s RESPONSIBILITY. Paul doesn’t say “God will stir up your gift” or “I’ll stir it up for you.” He says “YOU stir it up.”
Timothy has to CHOOSE to strengthen himself, to engage the gift, to fan the flame.
BUT—here’s the good news: He doesn’t do it in his own strength. The Spirit provides the power, love, and self-discipline Timothy needs to take action.
