Sermon Notes
When you are anointed by God, you carry His seal of approval, His power, and His purpose. You are chosen because you belong to Him, you are empowered because you are equipped by Him, and you are set apart to be devoted to Him.
“True investment and lasting inspiration can only happen once there’s clarity around identification.”

The Categories of Gifts
- Motivational Gifts (Gifts of the Father) – 12:3-8
- Spiritual Gifts (Gifts of the Holy Spirit) – 1 Cor. 12:1-11
- Ascension Gifts (Gifts of the Son) – 4:7-12
To consider our giftings as something that makes us superior is arrogance and makes it all about ourselves. To fail to embrace the giftings God has given us is to act as though the only ability we have is from ourselves.
Everyone Has a Measure of Faith (v. 3)
Measure – a limited portion designed to work in concern with one’s gift.
Faith – credence, moral conviction or spiritual truth.
Not a measure of saving faith, rather a limited portion of faith to receive and to exercise the gifts God apportions to us.
Example: Faith for giving comes with the gift of giving.
.
Everyone Has a Specific Place (v. 4-5)
Members – NT:3196 melos – a limb or part of the body
Office – NT:4234 praxis – function; execution and accomplishment
The differences in our gifts make us unique (many members – “limbs”)
The differences in our gifts make us unified (one body – a sound whole)
There is no difference in value, only difference in function!
Example: Body Illustration – phantom pain experienced in the loss of a limb.
Everyone Has a Special Grace (v. 6)
Gifts – NT:5486 charisma – spiritual endowment, religious qualification, or miraculous faculty
Grace – NT:5485 charis – graciousness; manner of act; divine influence upon the heart and its reflection in the life.
God has given each of us a grace that manifests itself through a gift!
.
Everyone Has Spiritual Responsibility (v. 6)
Let us use them – Italicized because it was not in the original text, rather added for ease of reading.
The implication is by virtue of the fact that you have a grace that manifests in a gift, it is expected that you will use that gift to serve God and others.

Motivational Gifts Are Built Into Us From Birth (Ps. 139:13-16)
If God has so precisely planned for the development of your physical body—which is eventually subject to degeneration and death—how much more has He planned for your giftedness?
.
Motivational Gifts Are the Motivating Forces For Your Life That Shape Your Personality
.
Motivational Gifts Are, Individually, One Perspective That Must Depend On The Others For A Picture Of The Whole.
Example: Six blind men who went to “see” an elephant:
- #1 felt the side – it’s like a wall
- #2 felt the tusk – it’s like a spear
- #3 felt the trunk – it’s like a snake
- #4 felt the leg – it’s like a tree
- #5 felt the ear – it’s like a fan
- #6 felt the tail – it’s like a rope
No one was altogether right or entirely wrong, but when put together they “saw” the whole elephant!
.
Motivational Gifts Are Equal In The Sight Of God And Equal In Value To The Body Of Christ
.
Are Subject To Your Will And Can Be Used, Neglected, Or Abused
