Believe God
(Romans 4:3)
(Romans 4:3)
“God’s greatest pleasure is to be believed. God’s greatest pain is to be doubted.” – Mike Murdock
Genesis 12:1-3 records the first encounter in scripture between God and Abram. God shows up in Abram’s life and tells him to get out of his comfort zone (familiar place) to the land God will show him. He promises to make Abram a great nation, to bless him, and to make his name great. God also promises to bless those who bless Abram and curse those who curse him. Through Abram all the families of the earth shall be blessed. In Genesis 12:4, Abram departed Haran at 75 years old with no children, but God told him that He was going to make him a great nation. Romans 4:3 tells us what transpired – Abraham believed God, which was accounted to him as righteousness.
.
God told Abraham that he had made him a father of many nations. God is telling Abraham what He had already done. He just needed Abraham to believe what He had already done. God had already made Abraham a father of many nations even though he did not have a child. When God starts to speak, we must believe because He has already declared some things over our lives that are critical to our lives. His Word is so powerful that He doesn’t have to wonder if what He says will happen. When God speaks his Word, it is already created in its very nature.

Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping, v. 18 (NLT). Abraham got to this place by not being weak in faith; he didn’t talk himself out of the promises of God (v. 19). Abraham did not consider his body already dead nor the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He did not waiver in his faith that God would come through. He was strengthened in faith and gave glory to God. The way to believe in adverse circumstances is to not allow the negative stuff to fill our minds with doubt and lies of the enemy. Stop talking yourself out of what God had declared over your life. We must believe God during adverse circumstances and learn to give Him glory and trust that He’s going to do what He said. We get tripped up by trying to believe with our heads. Romans 10 states that believing happens with our hearts.

Be fully convinced (completely assured) that what God had promised, He’s able (by His strength, power, and capacity) to bring to pass. When we go to God, there should never be a question of His ability to take care of any situation. Abraham got to a place where he was fully convinced that God was able. The thing that helps us get to the place of being fully convinced that God is able is to look back over our lives and see what God has already done. Genesis 12:1-3 states several of God’s promises to Abram that came to pass before the child was born. So, we can look at our own history and be fully convinced that God is so committed to what He has said that His Word is unbreakable. God has declared things over our lives that He wants us to simply believe. If God gave us His Son, He couldn’t do any more than that, so whatever you are believing God for, believe that it will happen.
