How to Be a Faithful Father

• Fathers play an important role in the lives of their sons and daughters.
• Fatherhood is a sacred calling ordained by God to shape the next generation. It is not merely a biological or societal role but a divine responsibility.
• As we delve into God’s Word, we will explore how fathers can stay in their sons’ and daughters’ lives, stay involved, and stay invested in ways that honor God and reflect His love.

The father’s role was so important that it closed out the last book of the Old Testament.

Malachi 4:5–6 (NKJV)

⁵Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

⁶And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.”

A Father Must Stay In The Life Of His Sons And Daughters

In Deuteronomy 6:6-7, we are instructed, “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

Biblical Example: Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus

Matthew 1:18–21 (NKJV)

¹⁸Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁹Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.

²⁰But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

²¹And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

²⁴Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife,

• Joseph stayed in Jesus’ life, providing him with guidance, protection, and love.

• Despite not being His biological father, Joseph accepted the divine mission to raise Jesus.

• He was present during critical moments, from the flight to Egypt to the upbringing in Nazareth, ensuring Jesus had a stable and loving home.

Practical Application

• Consistency: Fathers need to be consistent in their presence. This means making time daily to connect with their children, be it through meals, bedtime stories, or simply being there to listen.

• Quality Time: Engage in activities that your children This can be as simple as playing a game, taking a walk, or having a meaningful conversation.

• Be Available: Try to attend their events, whether they’re school plays, sports games, or parent-teacher meetings. Your presence communicates love and commitment.

A Father Must Stay Involved With Their Sons And Daughters

Galatians 4:1–2 (NKJV)

¹Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all,

²but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father.

• You must stay involved because Parents are king-rulers and queen-rulers, raising prince/heirs and princes/heirs. You are training to reign.

A Father Must Stay Invested In His Sons And Daughters

•  An INHERITANCE is WHAT YOU LEAVE BEHIND.
• LEGACY is WHO YOU LEAVE BEHIND.

Proverbs 19:14 (NKJV)

¹⁴Houses and riches are an inheritance from fathers, But a prudent wife is from the Lord.

 

Proverbs 13:22 (NKJV)

²²A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.

Fathers deposit an investment of a:

• Good name
• Godly character
• Genuine faith
• Generous giving attitude
• This results in Generational blessings

Remember that fatherhood is a divine calling that requires us to STAY IN the lives of our sons and daughters, STAY INVOLVED, and STAY INVESTED in their lives.

We must embrace our roles with faithfulness and love. Let us seek God’s strength and wisdom as we fulfill this sacred duty, always remembering that our Heavenly Father is the ultimate example of perfect fatherhood.
