What Not to Do With Money
(Luke 16:1-14)
(Luke 16:1-14)
In the scripture Luke 16:1 a steward is being released of his duties for wasting his master’s riches. A steward is either a slave or a free man, who has access to his master’s riches. The steward is a position of high status, and the steward is afforded the ability to handle the master’s business.
.
WHAT NOT TO DO WITH MONEY:
Do not waste it. (Luke 16:1)
Waste means to scurry; spend foolishly and to no purpose.
.
Do not trust it for security. (Luke 16:3)
Anything that can be taken away from you, is not a secure thing. The scripture of Proverbs 23:5 confirms by saying “the riches make themselves wings…”
“The only thing that can be trusted for security is the love of God.” – Pastor Billy R. Johnson.
.
Do not love it or live for it.
Money is not evil, but the love of it is. You do not have to have money to love it.
.
Do not expect money to satisfy. (Ecclesiasts 5:10)
For he who loves money will not be satisfied with money; those who love money will never have enough. What is enough for you?
Although the steward has wasted his master’s riches, he was still commended by God. Not for his unjustness, but for being shrewd in light of his unjust actions. Shrewd is being able to see an opportunity in unfavorable circumstances. Are you shrewd? Are you able to see an opportunity or an opposition in unfavorable circumstances?
The steward was commended for, he saw an opportunity and did these things:
He Looked Ahead (Proverbs 14:8)
He Made a Plan (Proverbs 16:9)
He Acted Quickly (Luke 16:6)
“If we don’t act quickly, we fail to seize the opportunity in the midst of the problem.” – Pastor Billy R. Johnson.
.
The principles one must understand if we are going to use money rightly:
It all belongs to God. (Psalms 24:2)
God uses money to test us. (Luke 16:10-12)
Money is the tool to be used for God’s purposes. (Luke 16:9)
In closing, we must be shrewd in our use of resources and have the ability to look ahead, not panic, make a plan and act quickly. How we handle what we currently have is an indication of how we will handle more. If we are unfaithful with the least, why then would God entrust us with true riches? Heed the lessons of the unjust.
.
“Utilize the resources you have to open the spiritual doors for others, in the management of God’s possessions.” – Pastor Billy R. Johnson.
