Reset Your Strength and Courage for Impact
(Joshua 1:1-2; 8-9)
(Joshua 1:1-2; 8-9)
There are many components to the journey to success.
Strength and courage are two components that are necessary in every journey to success.
Every leader will face challenges, opposition, and obstacles in their success journey.
Success is the progressive realization of predetermined, God-given dreams, visions, and goals.
“Success is not a destination, it’s a journey.” – Bishop La Fayette Scales
Be encouraged; maintain and reset your strength and courage this weekend for the journey ahead.
Do you have your history? Now, it’s time to look towards your horizons.
Do you have your past? But now it’s time to look forward to your future.
You know what’s behind you; it’s time to reach for what is before you.
KJV Joshua 1:1-2 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying, 2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
These verses are transitional words.
Transition is when you are not where you were or where you are going.
Transition is when you are between what was and what will be.
Transition involves your history and your horizons.
Joshua’s transition was from Moses to Joshua.
Current and future leaders must know their current context.

Current and future leaders will both have struggles!
Moses would struggle with the people he led.
Joshua would struggle with the inhabitants of the land he was called to conquer and possess.
Moses was the leader of slaves, wilderness wanderers, and desert babies out of Egypt.
Joshua was born in Egypt, journeyed through the wilderness, crossed Jordan, and entered the land.
Joshua would lead desert babies and wilderness wanderers to become a dominant force and military warriors.

KJV Joshua 1:8-9 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. 9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Be strong and courageous.
This is repeated three times in chapter 1.
Power will bring you out of Egypt.
Strength will keep you through the wilderness.
Courage is the ability to act in the face of fear, intimidation, and overwhelming odds.
Why do we need the courage to advance?
It takes courage to…

The Lord wants to take everyone into His promise.
The next generation will need to know the power of God.
And the current generation will need to impart the strength of God and the power of God to the next generation.
The young and the older have a part in entering into and maintaining the promise.
“We need to let the next generation know that we need their prayers.” – Bishop La Fayette Scales
KJV Psalm 71:17-18 O God, thou hast taught me from my youth:
and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works. 18 Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.
Power, strength, and courage are necessary to advance.
The word of God is the glue that holds both generations together.
The word of God is the connector from one generation to another.
But the word of God should be verbal, internal, and visible in our lives.
The word of God comes to change our…
Discomfort is one of the ways that the Lord uses to change our minds.
Discomfort is one of the ways that the Lord uses to get us to move.
Discomfort is one of the ways that the Lord uses to motivate us to change.
Discomfort is one of the things that the Lord uses to disrupt our lives.
Discomfort with the present is one of the things that the Lord uses to move us into His preferred future.
KJV Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. 9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
God’s word comes to bring faith.
