Engaging With Jesus

13 Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was [e]seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.

25 Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He [g]expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. 28 Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and He [h]indicated that He would have gone farther. 29 But they constrained Him, saying, “Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.” And He went in to stay with them. 30 Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight.

Jesus wants you to know him but knowing him requires engaging with him.

If you want to get to know anyone you must spend time with that person.

How many people talk about the Lord but don’t know the Lord.

WHY DID THEY NOT KNOW HIM?

 

Their Eyes Were Restrained (v16)

• They were slow of heart to believe (v25)
• They did not believe even after the women told them the tomb was empty

WHAT CAUSED THEM TO KNOW HIM

They Received Explanation About Him (v27)

• Jesus explained thoroughly
• If we want to know Him we must go to the scriptures
• The scriptures think of Jesus

There are some things that have happened in your life that if you look back it was clear that God was all in it.

They Had an Aspiration To Be With Him (vv28-29)

• They insisted that He stay
• They made room for Him

EVERYTHING in our life can come under the lordship of the Lord.

They Got Revelation From Him (v30-31)

• Their vision was expanded from verse 16 to verse 31
• Jesus made Himself known to them through the breaking of bread

Ps. 119:18, Eph 1:18

If you want to walk with Him, ask God to open your eyes.

1 Cor 2:9-10

The revelation is not because of who you are but who God is.  Begin to engage with Him.
