5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

Life has a way of throwing everything at you.

In this passage Peter wanted to encourage Christians because they were facing persecution.  Everyone is not happy you are saved.  At some point you may be persecuted because you are an ambassador of Jesus.

TO EQUIP YOURSELF FOR YOUR BOUNCE BACK:

Be Humble

• Humble means to be low.
• Cause yourself to be a base

Why should we be humble?  Verse 5 says God resists the proud.  Also, because He gives grace to the humble.

Be Watchful (vv8-9)

• Be alert; stay aware!
• Be watchful because you have an adversary
• The adversary wants to devour you; cause complete and sudden destruction of someone.
• Resist (strongly and actively oppose) the adversary
• Recognize that you are in a real fight with a real enemy

Expect God to Work (v10)

• Don’t give up hope
• Be aware of what God is doing!
• God will work after you have suffered a little while; momentary suffering!

God will restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish.
