Preparing for Your Next by Focusing on Your Now
(Matthew 14:22-25)
(Matthew 14:22-25)
22 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. 23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. 24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. 25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.
NCCM has just stepped into its 31st year, and we are moving into the next!
However, we can’t get caught up in the next to the point where we miss the now of the moment. If we are not careful, we can easily rush the now as we try to get to the next. Then, we can miss the opportunity to be empowered for the next – miss the preparatory work God is doing. Our next moment is a convergence of our now moments.
Jesus is a great example of what preparing for our next looks like. Jesus was always stepping into his next thing.
What can we learn from Jesus as we prepare for our next? We must be willing to:
1) Separate from the multitude – Let God do the separating for you (vs 22).
2) Go up the mountain by yourself – Sneak away to be alone with God (vs 23).
3) Speak to the Master – Pray and position yourself to hear from God (vs 23).
After this, Jesus went to the disciples walking on the water (vs 25).
Be ready to step into your next on a sure foundation.
