⁷And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; And man became a living being. ⁸The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. ⁹And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

¹⁵Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. ¹⁶And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; ¹⁷But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”  ¹⁸And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”

Family is significant; family is important; Family impacts everyone.

Family Matters to God (Genesis)

After God created each entity in Genesis He said it was good.  In Genesis 2 was the first time that God said that something was not good.  God created a family indicating that family is important to God.

Family Matters to Us as Individuals

Emotional support – there is something about having family being there for emotional support.

Families Help to Create Economic Well-Being

Intact families are better off economically.  Many family members are available to help one another.

Families Provide Physical Health

Married people tend to live longer.  Families will look after one another and encourage one another to take care of each other’s health.

Families Matter to Society

The world does not want us to think that families matter to society.

When children are released into society, they should make a positive influence.

The Family Models Care

Our lives should be lived that we care about others outside of our immediate family as well.

Family supporting families.  You should be able to count on a relationship with others and benefit from their social networks.

While Families Cannot Eliminate Crime, They Can Help Prevent it and Lessen its Impact

There is something about being under authority in a family unit.  Family authority figures can keep you from going in the wrong direction.

Issues surrounding families are the same whether saved or unsaved.

God’s Initial Design of Family

Makeup of the family has changed but initial principles of family have not.

God Prepared the Man (verse 7)

God formed the man.  We are literally being formed by Almighty God

God breathed into the man.  God’s breath is what causes you to become.

God Planted the Garden

God prepared a place for the man

Even after all the preparation in verse 18 God says that “it is not good that man should be alone” (the first place where God says that something is not good).
