The Power of Spiritual Vision
(Ephesians 1:15-21)
(Ephesians 1:15-21)
15 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
Paul wrote the Ephesian church which was the spiritual epicenter of the Asian Churches and prayed a three-fold prayer that: 1) your spiritual eyes be enlightened (opened), 2) the dynamic power that God has invested in you will flood you with light to be the light of the world, and 3) His exceeding great power will enable you to have presence and power in the community.
Light is important for sight. Sight is the ability to see something.
Vision (and spiritual vision) is spiritual insight. It is the capacity God has given us in the spirit realm to romance our future with our now. Vision gives us the opportunity to preview our future and purpose in our now.
Natural sight can cause us to be disturbed, fearful and panic.
Related Scripture: 2 Kings 6:15. Gehazi the servant of Elisha was fearful.
Natural sight can cause problem and can have problems.
The Bible assesses people by Eyesight (our capacity to see).
Related Scripture: 1 Sam. 3:2. Samuel and the chief priest Eli. The farther you get from the house of the Lord, the more you walk in darkness. The farther you walk from the house of the Lord, the more your vision and purpose get blurred. Eyesight dimming is not just a function of age. Deut. 34:7 Moses also got old, but did not lose his eyesight.
Watch where you lay down in your old age because where you do will change what you see. Stay face to face with the LORD.
Having someone who can manage, give guidance and accountability for our lives.
Related Scripture: Luke 19:43 & 44. Jesus spoke about the hour of visitation (inspection).
When Jesus comes to our city, we need to have to spiritual eyes to see him. He comes to give us management, guidance and accountability. Don’t let the overseer come to our city and lives and we miss Him. Oversight gives us safety.
The capacity we have to reflect on our past (history). Hindsight gives us security. People don’t learn from history.
Related Scripture: Psalm 51 – Story of David and Bathsheba. David had hindsight and reflection. Hindsight gives us the ability to sit in silence and reflect – to learn from our past.
Spiritual insight is spiritual vision – to figure out what we are really doing and perceive what is going on.
Related Scripture: 2 Kings 6:17. Elisha prayed that Gehazi’s eyes be opened.
It is moving from and beyond sight, eyesight, oversight and hindsight into the spiritual insight. It is moving to the place of ‘Lord, open our eyes that we might see’ – to a new level of spiritual perception and discernment. When we have insight, God will also give us foresight.
Allows to look for the things that are not seen, that is look for eternal things.
