The Gift That Keeps on Giving
(Isaiah 9:6; Luke 2:7)
(Isaiah 9:6; Luke 2:7)
Background
Isaiah 9:6 – For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Luke 2:7 – And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn
Isaiah 9:6 is the prophetic Word and Luke 2:7 is the manifestation of the promise of God.
“God has spoken some things to you, and it WILL come to pass.” – Minister Michelle Jackson
Most times we use the words interchangeably, but a present is a more informal type of giving. Gifts often have more value than a present. Think about God giving us spiritual gifts. They are called Spiritual gifts, not Spiritual presents.
Jesus is Qualified
The word ‘wonderful’ simply means supernatural, extraordinary, and miraculous.
And counselor means able to make wise plans, give wise advice, and council. Who is better qualified to give council and guidance to us.
“Why is He always last when we need council and advice.” – Minister Michelle
Jesus Understands
Hebrews 2:17-18 – Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Jesus knows
– exactly what we are going through
– what we need while we are in it.
– what we need to get us out of it.
Jesus is Excellent in Wisdom
His wisdom is excellent and perfect.
“His council is how we live effective and victoriously.” – Minister Michelle Jackson
The word mighty in Hebrew is ‘el gibbor’, which means Jesus is a warrior or war hero. It means that He is the ultimate victory over sin.
Deuteronomy 10:17 – For the Lord your God, is the God of gods, and He is the Lord of lords.
This scripture implies that we must be careful about making elevating gods and lords into God and Lord in our lives.
Matthew 28:18 – And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
Fathers give unconditional love. Father’s are always loving us, guarding us, supplying us, caring for us, and protecting us. And Jesus does this for us.
The Deity of God – Jesus is all-God and all-Man at the same time. He is the never-ending Father.
The word peace means Shalom – well being, tranquility, property, and wholeness.
How do we get peace?
Peace with God
This peace is offered to sinners. As a sinner we are separated from God and thus, do not have peace.
Peace of God
This is the inward peace that calms the soul due to our acceptance of Christ Jesus.
Isaiah 26:3 – You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
