Today’s service highlighted some of the types of services that are handled by the Support for Life Ministry at New Covenant Christian Ministry. Below are a sample of saints who have chosen to share their stories to let others, who may be dealing with the same issues, know that they are not alone.
Shundria Daniels
Bipolar Disorder
- Get encouragement from family and friends
- Rely on God for strength; peace
- Has relied on God so much that she’s had no recent episodes
- Encourages others with this disorder to know that they are not alone
- You will face challenges daily
- Reach out to someone!

Lindsey Rogers
Addiction
- Former heroin and crack addict
- Went to military to try and escape her addiction
- Eventually found other people who had been through what she was going through
- Did what others have done to get what they have
- Clean over 5 years!
- Learned how to face life with the hope that comes from God

Belinda Corbin
Domestic Violence
- Abused by boyfriend
- Asked for prayer from a friend and after that had the courage to leave her abuser
- Came to the realization that she was stronger than she ever knew she was
- God is a God who loves you

Kim DeJarnette
Caregiver
- A mom who happens to be caregiver to a special needs child
- Dealt with depression and isolation while caring for her child
- Hope is to have a special needs classroom for special needs children
- Hope is that others have an open heart to embrace special needs child and families
- Asked that others not be afraid to offer help; don’t stare!

Darrell Whitehead
Depression
- Dealt with depression around age 28
- Depression is not talked about in our communities
- Didn’t know how to deal with depression since the subject is suppressed at home
- Take one step at a time; one day at a time

Dr. Leah Hemphill (depression recap)
- Depression is experienced by everyone at some time or other; some more severe than others
- Symptoms for men may be different than for women
- Recognize that God is your source
- Don’t hide; don’t be ashamed (that’s not who God says you are)
- No easy answer for depression; it’s a journey with the Lord and support team members
Gwen Smith
Sexual Assault
- Sexually assaulted as a child
- Carried guilt that it was her fault
- Relied on God to show her that she was not at fault

Minister Tina Taylor (recap)
- Don’t need any credentials to help those with mental illness
- Listen, Relate, Pray
- Listen for God’s response
- The Holy Spirit can minister to any situation that affects you
- Pray to have God meet you right where you are
- God will bring comfort, healing, courage, strength
- Keep your mind on God and he will keep you in perfect peace
- Acknowledge God in all your ways and He will direct your path
- Wait for the vision; it will come on God’s time
- God is with you always!
