I Believe
(Genesis 1:1-3)
(Genesis 1:1-3)
From the beginning of time, the enemy has been trying to undermine your belief in God. Because if he can get you to doubt God’s word, he can get you to doubt God; they are one and the same.
Genesis 1:1-3 (ESV)
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth – Whenever the beginning was, God was there. We also see that God is a creator. So God is a timeless, creative God.
Darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering – Is it possible for God to be hovering over you, and your world still feels like it is covered in darkness?
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. – This is God’s response to the darkness in your life: light. Notice that God changed the world with four words.
“When God speaks, He speaks with an expectation of manifestation.” – Pastor Adrian Taylor
What is God saying to you?
Throughout the Bible, there are many examples of faith. One example is the life of Abraham.
Abraham, originally called Abram (which means great father), was told by God to leave his father’s house to a land that God would show him, and God would make him a great nation (Genesis 12:1-2). Yet 10 years later, Abram and his wife had not conceived a son. Yet in still, Abraham believed God.
In fact, it was actually 25 years before Abraham and his wife saw the manifestation of God’s promise, yet they believed!
In Genesis 22, we see another example of Abraham exercising his faith in God. God instructed Abraham to sacrifice his promised son, the one that He loved. And Abraham obeyed.
We see several key moments in this event:
1) Abraham got up early the next morning to go to the mountain and sacrifice Isaac.
2) Although the trip was a 3-day journey, and he had many opportunities to turn around, Abraham did not waver.
3) Even at the point of sacrificing his Son, Abraham obeyed God without question.
4) Abraham told his servant that he and Isaac were going to worship and that they would return, showing full confidence that God would keep His word.
Mary was a teenage virgin not supposed to create. Sarah was an old woman not supposed to create. Yet His promise was in the womb of them both and they both gave birth to it. Whether you are young or old, we must give birth to promises of God in our lives.
So the question is, what is God saying to you?
