31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
33 They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”
34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
Abide: A settled determination to live in the word. Abiding in the word not just for information but also for transformation.
“There is no such thing as a disciple who doesn’t abide in the Word.” – Pastor Billy Johnson
As you continually settle in the word you shall know the truth. Practice it!
Truth: Fact that corresponds to reality.
The enemy wants us to:
Suppress the Truth (Romans 1:18)
Exchange the Truth (Romans 1:24-25)
- Find some alternative truth
Stray from the Truth (2 Timothy 2:1-18)
- Wander from the Word to stray from the truth
Never Come to the Knowledge of the Truth (2Timothy 3:7)
- Always learning but never coming to the knowledge of the truth
Resist the Truth (2 Timothy 3:8)
Turn Your Ears Away from the Truth (2 Timothy 4:3-4)
- Like-minded ignorance
- Start believing fables (anything not associated with the truth)
You will find out who you are when you recognize the truth
