The Power of the Holy Spirit
(Acts 1:8)
(Acts 1:8)
8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be [a]witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Sometimes when people hear the power of the Holy Spirit, we think of speaking in tongues. Others think of demons being cast out. We first become witnesses when we receive the power of the Holy Spirit. Power to witness. First it means you shall be witnesses when the power of the Holy Spirit comes upon you. Power means strength and ability. Witness – Someone who has seen and heard, courage to die for. We need strength and ability to overcome the fear of ourselves and others.
What are the challenges to witness?
We have to overcome the fear of others.
We have to overcome the fear of change.
We have to overcome the fear of death.
We have to overcome the fear of darkness.
We need strength and ability. Jesus said, if you go—I’ll go with you! When we glorify the Father, God the Son then the Holy Spirt shows up.
David was empowered to witness.
He glorified God, miracles signs and wonders followed.
Elijah had to overcome and witness to the power of darkness.
He gave witness to who God was and miracles signs and wonders followed.
Stephen prayed for those who were going to stone him to death. That’s a miracle, sign and wonder.
Paul and Silas gave witness to God—miracles, signs and wonders followed.
If you witness first, miracles, signs and wonders shall happen. The Holy Spirit came upon David, Moses and Elijah. For us, God sent the Comforter, the Holy Spirit indwells within us. Any time a man’s heart is turned toward God, there are miracles, signs and wonders. Witness comes before miracles, signs and wonders. The Holy Spirit allows us to witness to Christ in a self-denying purpose.
“Why not give witness and allow Him to bring about miracles, signs, and wonders. – Min. Tina Taylor”
Jesus said, “If you go, I’ll go with you. Open up your mouth and I will speak for you!”
