What To Do When You Are Overwhelmed and Facing Despair (Part 2)
(Psalms 77:1-9; focus on 7-9)
(Psalms 77:1-9; focus on 7-9)
In verses 7-9, we see Asaph asking six questions that all deal with the character of God:
The answers we get to the questions we ask, can alter our attitude toward the God we love.
“You cannot go to the world to get answers about God.” – Pastor Billy Johnson
Where you need to learn about God is in His word. You have to get to a place where you know His word.
Lamentations 3:31 – For the Lord will not cast off forever, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love; for he does not afflict from his heart or grieve the children of men.
No! We’ve all done things that weren’t pleasing to God, yet He will not reject us forever. When you put your faith in Jesus Christ, you became accepted in the beloved.
Psalms 30:5 – For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.
When you came to Christ, the same favor that is extended to Jesus is on you, and you can’t do anything about it.
Say, “I’ve got a lifetime of favor.” – Pastor Billy Johnson
Jeremiah 31:3 – The Lord has appeared of old to me saying, Yes I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.
God’s love is not conditional like man’s love. God’s love is an everlasting love, which is a difficult concept to grasp. God’s love and mercy is part of who He is, so it would be contrary to who He is to love any other way.
1 King 8:56 – Blessed be the Lord, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised. There has not failed one word of all His good promise, which He promised through his servant Moses.
Joshua 21:45 – Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.
“God is so meticulous that He watches over every word to make sure it happens just as He said it would happen.” – Pastor Billy Johnson
Isaiah 49:14-16 – But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me.” “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.
God hasn’t forgotten us. However, He is committed to us developing in character.
Lamentations 3:22 – Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed. Because His compassions fail not, they are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!”
God is granting us new mercies every morning.
Psalms 100:5 – For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.
