You Need The Word
(Luke 4:1-11)
(Luke 4:1-11)
Sometimes we look for a prophetic word. Even prophecy needs to be filtered through the word.
After Jesus’ baptism He was led by the spirit into the wilderness. The devil began to tempt Jesus beginning with “If you are the Son of God…” Jesus answered:
You are a spirit you have a soul and you live in a body. Your body feeds on natural food, your spirt feeds on the Word of God. A lot of us are walking around malnourished. If life asks us a question we need to filter it through the Word. You can’t live on two cold snacks a week. You have to have a constant intake of the word.
Here was Jesus being tempted and he did not use His own power. He did not say I feel He said “it is written…” (Vs. 5)
We need to get some “It is written” in our lives!
Note that the devil also said, “It is written.” He knows the word. But the issue is he is the father of lies! When he lies, he’s speaking his native tongue. He begins to twist the word. That’s why we have to know the Word. We must get to the place where we can recognize those lies because we have the word in us. We must be able to defeat the enemy in the time of temptation. We can’t wait until we are tempted to get the ammunition. The devil tempts us in areas where we are temptable. We have to get prepared ahead of time.
Ephesians 6:17 – And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
The word is likened to the sword – it’s a weapon. Pick up the sword if he tells us those needs will not be met. The devil does not care about how we feel but he must respond to the Word.
If we are saying, “I feel like, or I think” then we are dealing with emotions. Feeling is the voice of emotion. Believe the voice of the Spirit!
Hebrews 4:12 states, For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
In The Message bible that same verse reads:
God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what.
It is living. It moves to ‘the quick.’ God’s word is so alive that whatever he says, that word comes to pass. When God begins to speak what He says comes alive. Faith was produced in our heart and we were born again of the incorruptible seed, which is the word of God. It caused you to become a new person. If you could see me on the inside…
His word is working in us even when the flesh is going against the very thing. Our perspective begins to change because the word is alive
God, when he speaks, expects things to happen irrespective of what things look like. God calls you the righteousness of God in Him! That word is powerful. It causes things to happen. Think of Lazarus as an example
It will heighten our discernment! It means it will give us the ability to judge situations. We make judgements every day when we make decisions about something.
HEB 1:3– who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself[a] purged our[b] sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
He’s upholding all things by the word of His power. When God created everything, He spoke—Light just showed up when God said. He told the seas where their boundaries would be.
Everything is sustained by the original word he spoke. He says that word will sustain us. Story of Jesus walking on the water for example. Jesus said come. Peter got out of the boat. The only thing that was holding Peter was the Word. God is waiting for us to step out on the Word of God!! He is the only person who does something. He literally watches over His word that everything come to pass. There are times that God is waiting on us to simply trust to step out on the Word of God. He will not disappoint us. We need the word!
One scripture a day does not keep the devil away!! As we get the word on the inside of us—something–Our minds; Our actions will be different. Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against you!!
WE NEED THE WORD!
